JESSI'S STORY

From many points of view I haven't been on this Earth very long but during that time of seventeen years, I've experienced much. Many events remain long forgotten, but there is one - thugh it happened recently - that will stick in my mind forever. July 5, 1998 - I was on the way to work, a monotonous hum of recitations and button pushing at Paramount's Kings Dominion. Asleep in the passenger's seat, dreaming of my nice warm bed back home, I was rudely awakened to the sounds of screeching tires and scattered profanity from my car pool and boyfriend, Seth Price. I looked up to see the wrong side of the world out the window. Nothing but flattened grass and dirt and rocks. We rolled one and a half times and landed upside down in the cement culvert that saved our lves. Sometime during that seemingly never-ending spin, I was twisted out of my seatbelt - a good thing because it would have probably snapped my neck. I don't remember much except thinking "dirt? Dirt is not supposed to be in here... where's Seth?" As I inhaled the rich scent of Earth that was seeping in through the back windows, the thought of death never even crossed my mind. The utter stillness surrounding us after the roll was incredible. I then realized that the engine was still running and, ironically enough, Megadeth's "High Speed Dirt" was still playing in the tape deck. I was sitting on the ceiling, Seth was still strapped to the floor. We concentrated on getting out and soon enough people arrived to help. The car was totalled and I had to quit my job, but we both only walked away with only a few minor bruises. What caused the accident? A poor combination of road hypnosis and exaustion. I learned a valuable lesson and consider myself very lucky, but I do consider those few moments to be the most interesting event of my life.
